See the Difference: 1981 → 1995
Four coatings on one wall, fourteen years of weather. Only the Kynar 500® PVDF finish kept its colour and gloss — the others faded and chalked. It’s the clearest proof of why we finish our metal roofs with Kynar 500.
| Coating | Colour Retention | Gloss Retention | Chalk Resistance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kynar 500® PVDF | Excellent | Excellent | Excellent |
| Silicone-Modified Polyester | Good | Good | Good |
| Polyester | Fair | Fair | Fair |
| Acrylic | Fair | Poor | Fair |

Every WB Construction metal roof is finished with a Kynar 500® PVDF coating — the premium, factory-applied paint system trusted on architectural and landmark buildings around the world. Here is what that means for your home.
What Is Kynar 500?
Kynar 500® is a coating based on PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) resin. It is widely regarded as the benchmark finish for architectural metal because of how well it holds its colour and gloss over decades of exposure to sun, rain, pollution and salt air.
The 14-Year Exposure Test
Coatings are judged by how they survive real weather. The industry benchmark is long-term outdoor exposure — test panels mounted at a 45° angle facing south in the intense sun, heat and humidity of South Florida, one of the harshest weathering environments there is. In this kind of testing, Kynar 500® PVDF finishes kept their colour and gloss for well over a decade, while acrylic, polyester and silicone-polyester coatings visibly faded and chalked.
Why It Matters for Your Roof
The paint finish is what keeps your roof looking new. A Kynar 500® PVDF finish resists fading, chalking and UV damage far better than standard coatings, so the colour you choose today stays rich and consistent for years — even in Nova Scotia’s harsh coastal climate.
