Metal Roof Warranty & Claims in Nova Scotia

Your Metal Roof Warranty & How to Make a Claim
What’s covered, what isn’t, and the exact steps to take if something ever looks wrong — explained by the crew that installs metal roofs across Nova Scotia.
A quality metal roof is built to outlast almost everything else on your house — most owners will never file a warranty claim in their lifetime. But it’s worth knowing exactly what protection you have and what to do in the rare case something doesn’t look right. Every metal roof WB Construction installs is backed by a 40-year manufacturer warranty on the material and a 1-year WB workmanship warranty on the installation — and if you ever need to make a claim, we handle the process with you.
The two warranties on your WB metal roof
A metal roof is protected on two fronts — the product itself, and the way it was installed.
The steel panels and their Kynar 500® PVDF factory finish carry a 40-year manufacturer warranty against premature fading, chalking, cracking, peeling and corrosion under normal conditions. This is the finish that keeps your roof looking new for decades.
WB Construction warranties the installation itself for one year — flashing, fasteners, seams and penetrations. If a workmanship issue shows up in that first year, we come back and make it right.
What a material warranty covers — and what it doesn’t
Manufacturer warranties are specific. In plain terms, here’s the general picture for a painted metal roof like yours.
Typically covered
- Color fade beyond the warranted limit
- Chalking (a white powdery film) beyond spec
- Cracking, flaking or peeling of the paint finish
- Corrosion or perforation of the metal under normal atmospheric conditions
Usually not covered
- Storm, hail, wind or impact damage (that’s an insurance matter)
- Damage from other trades, or add-ons drilled in later (satellite dishes, solar, snow guards)
- Foreign chemicals, salt-spray beyond coastal limits, animal waste
- Non-approved touch-up paint, or missed maintenance
Exact coverage and exclusions depend on the manufacturer’s warranty document for your specific panel and finish — WB keeps these on file for your project and will confirm the details for you.

Signs you might have a warranty issue
These are the visual red flags that are worth a call — even if you’re not sure:
- Red rust appearing on the panels or seams
- Discoloration or blotchy patches, small or large
- A chalky white film that rubs off the surface
- Noticeable fading compared to shaded or covered areas
- Chipping or flaking paint along seams and edges
Who to contact — start with WB
As the company that installed your roof, WB Construction is your first point of contact. We know your roof, the exact products on it, and the manufacturer behind them. We’ll tell you quickly whether it looks like a covered warranty item, and if it is, we coordinate the claim with the manufacturer for you — so you’re not chasing paperwork on your own.
The WB warranty claims process, step by step
Get in touch and gather your documents
Call or message WB and pull together what you have: your invoice, any warranty paperwork, the install date, and a few photos of the issue.
We pull your project & product records
We identify the exact panel profile, colour, finish and supplier used on your roof — even if you’ve misplaced your copy of the paperwork.
Send us clear photos and a description
The more detailed and high-quality the photos, the faster we can assess it. Often we can tell right away whether it looks warrantable.
On-site inspection, if needed
If it’s not clear from photos, we (and, for a manufacturer claim, their inspector) look at the roof in person to confirm the cause.
We coordinate with the manufacturer
For a material/finish claim we submit it to the paint and metal supplier, who review their records and testing to verify the defect.
Resolution
If it’s covered, replacement material is provided and WB schedules the repair. If it isn’t, we explain exactly why and walk you through your options.
How to keep your warranty valid
- Keep your invoice and warranty documents somewhere safe (a photo on your phone works too).
- Do light maintenance — clear leaves and debris, and rinse the roof if you’re close to the coast.
- Don’t let a third party drill into or penetrate the roof without asking first — unapproved holes can void coverage.
- Use only manufacturer-approved touch-up; avoid spray-painting over scuffs.
- Book WB for any repairs or add-ons so the work stays warranty-safe.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a claim take?
Simple finish questions can be answered quickly. A full manufacturer claim that needs an on-site inspection typically takes a few weeks up to a couple of months, depending on scheduling.
I’ve lost my paperwork — can I still claim?
Yes. Because WB installed your roof, we can look up your project and product records to support the claim.
Does adding solar panels or a satellite dish void my warranty?
It can, if a third party drills into the roof without following the right details. Always ask us first — there are non-penetrating ways to add things to a metal roof.
Is storm or hail damage covered?
That’s handled through your home insurance, not the finish warranty — but WB can inspect the roof and help you document it.
Have a Question About Your Roof’s Warranty?
Send us a couple of photos and we’ll tell you whether it looks like a warranty item — and take it from there. No pressure, no obligation.
