A sacrificial shield of zinc over the steel.
The steel is hot-dip galvanized with a G90 / Z275 zinc coating. Zinc protects sacrificially — it corrodes first so the steel underneath stays sound.
This is one of the most proven forms of long-term rust protection for structural steel.
